One Last Present

Tuesday, December 22

I got my last present from Santa.  The floor saver arrived.  It's a little wider than the tent, but I can fold it.  Leaving it a little larger so you can have a "porch" area outside the door only seems like a good idea until it rains...

It doesn't have grommets or any way to secure a rope, so it can't serve double duty as a tarp.  I can get a small one from Wal-Mart.  I'll probably want both if it rains, anyway.

Sorta ballpark, but where are you going anyway. Climatic area will do.

I've always just cut a piece of plastic--a little smaller than the floor and never had a problem... You can get gormets to add to the flooring if you want to make it a tarp too. I normally roll my tent in the ground cover to keep it dry in case of rain... when is this expedition that you're planning?

@Vince: South Texas. Lone Star Hiking Trail.

@sage: I probably have some plastic stashed around here. I didn't think of that. February.

I think I can feel your pack getting a little bit heavier...heh. As I commented before, weight is not the friend of the backpacker...

@Tallshag: The floor doesn't weigh much at all.

HO HO HO! Merry Christmas from me and Otin!
I like my tent with a king sized bed.

@Alexis AKA MOM: I may not be worth much as a baker, but I can use a slow cooker like nobody's business. I may try that recipe soon.

@Santa Claus: That's easy for you to say. You can have the reindeer haul it around for you.

sorry Jen, backpacking is very different to hiking. The first is a sport designed in an Ad agency, the 2nd. Well one gram extra carried over ten miles is not one gram. It is one gram per step over that ten miles.
Anyhow, I was a bit worried, for tips for one area/region are very different.... Well, dudh a le Homer Simpson, but there is a point, if it hasn't rained in that area during that month since they have records why the heck are you going to hump a tarp with gromets.

@Vince: I deserve a duh, but for saying South Texas instead of East Texas. It's in the Piney Woods which gets a lot of rain. Should I trust the weather forecast and not take it if rain isn't predicted? If it rains in February...it can be COLD.
