About Me

Learning to paddle on Lake Woodlands.

After 13 years in exports with a large shipping company I was let go during a company-wide layoff.  Since the age of 16, I had never been unemployed for more than 2 weeks and I decided it was about time to do some traveling and visit some of the places I'd always wanted to see.  First, I took a road trip from Houston to Key West, the Great Smoky Mountains, Yellowstone and then back to Houston.  I was on the road for a month, spending more than half of my nights sleeping in a tent.  I also visited the Grand Canyon, the Everglades, Vegas, Hawaii, and Arches National Park just to name a few places.  I joined an outdoor group to learn how to backpack and kayak.  I visited some beautiful places and had some amazing experiences that I wouldn't trade for a million dollars - some of which I've written about in this blog.  Check out the Pics from the Road and Travel Pages to find them.  I went to school full time for a semester and spent priceless time at home with my daughter during the winter months when I couldn't travel.

Now, I'm looking forward to getting back to work.  I'm currently looking for a job in exports, hopefully with a freight forwarder so I can learn another side of the business.  I love challenging myself in my professional life as well as during my "off time".

My blog continues to be a diary of whatever is happening in my life at the moment.  I might be traveling, training for a marathon, or searching for a job.  I can't wait to see what happens next...
