Under the Pierce Elevated

Yesterday was pretty and blue...almost 70. Today is wet, cold, and miserable...high 48. It's going to freeze overnight the next 5 days. It's weather like this that reminds me how blessed I am to have a roof over my head, central heat, and indoor plumbing. There are many people - even here in the U.S. - that can't say the same.

It makes me think that maybe I should start sending out resumes earlier than I originally planned. I can still work the Avon, possibly even find customers sooner since I can let new colleagues know I sell it, without being too pushy, of course.

Do you think the post office would deliver mail addressed "Under the Pierce Elevated"? (Just kidding. If I was becoming homeless I'd use the last of my money to get me and my backpacking gear to Maui.)

I am pretty sure that they have delivered mail there before.

It's amazing how many people we have here that choose to live without 'proper' housing. There was an old bloke near here that lived under a tree in the bush 50km (35miles) from the nearest town for (wait for it) 45 years!(I couldn't handle it for 45 minutes)
Now he's dead it's become a shrine to independence and a cache site.

You're welcome to take Joes place?

I've received plenty of mail to General Delivery-sent to a post office when I was hiking. Hopefully, you won't have to worry about that!

@Oilfield Trash: They relocated that "settlement" a few years ago, though. Does anybody still "camp" there.

@Tempo: I don't want to be the one to destroy what remains of Joe's camp. Maybe there's someplace just as nice down the road?

@sage: I've been worse off. I might have to give up my beautiful neighborhood temporarily and move to the hood again, but I know I'll be ok.

@Brian Miller: The locals on Oahu told me there are lots of people on Maui whose motto is, "Live in a tent, you don't pay rent." I'll go hang out with them for awhile.

I have been feeling pretty blessed to have a place to live too! It's wretched outside!

Yes times are rough on many people.
Jen do they not give social assistance in the US for dire times?
Do you not have a relative you can crash on for a while? And what about your daughter?
Soo many people are looking for work. On TV they said they showed less jobless on the stats but that it didn't mean people had jobs. It meant they stopped looking cause there aren't any.
They said for the first time people in America are anxious about the economy and even when working, people are not getting their checks cleared. It's a mess and Obama did nothing but raise health care prices.

@blueviolet: I'm watching the weather channel. There's another storm on the way. Bundle up.

@A Lady's Life: I'm not facing dire circumstances yet. I still have several months funds in the bank. I can make them stretch. I don't qualify for most social assistance because my car is too expensive (I own a 2007 Corolla). I can sell it and buy a piece of junk that costs more in monthly repairs than payments for my reliable car, or just stop paying for it and let it go back to the bank, and qualify. Who makes these rules? Also, Obama inherited this economy. Not that I'm his biggest fan (I'm NOT), but since we are not yet governed by a dictator, his power is much more limited than the media would have you believe.
