Cheap Cat Food Costs Big Money

"Mama, Jay's being all quiet in the corner.  He never does that."

Jay is always wanting to be in the center of activity.  If you're washing dishes, he's trying to get in the dishwasher.  If you're doing your hair and makeup, he's on the counter watching.  If you're busy on your laptap, he's in your lap supervising.  He follows my daughter like a puppy.

I went to his isolated corner and picked him up.  He howled in pain.  Oh, no...

The diagnosis?  Urethral obstruction.  He's in the kitty hospital in pain and I'm getting a $1000 bill because I tried to save a few bucks on pet food.

Don't use clumping litter, either. I had 2 cats that died from the intestinal obstructions it can cause, in spite of the $1,000.00+ vet bill. Sorry about your kitty, and the financial hit. I've got 2 cats and a vet practically on retainer.

I'd never heard that about clumping litter. Something else to discuss with our new vet.

Thanks for the tip! I'm not worried though. I don't make any money off of it now anyway. Have a great day!

What the heck is in the stuff that would cause an obstruction.

Vince: My understanding is that it's kind of like a human that eats junk food all the time. One burger won't kill you, but 3 a day eventually will. It's just not the best diet for them.

I think the urinary obstructions are caused by calcium, but I'm not sure. The intestinal obstructions are caused when the cat ingests clumping litter -- from cleaning its paws and/or actually eating some litter (cats are a tad weird!) -- and it clumps in their intestinal tract.

The urinary obstructions can be caused by many different things, apparently, because the vet analyzed it to confirm the cause.

I researched the clay litter online. It seems to be the kittens that eat it on purpose. Just like any baby, they taste everything. The adults could ingest it when they groom themselves. My vet specializes in just cats, so I'm still going to talk to him about that.

I never heard of this but why would they sell something bad for animals?
I am sure happy my cats all went outside.
Living normal lives is better than how they want animals to live today.
With all the laws and prices, it is no wonder they can't find homes for pets.
Here they want to pass more laws cause cats eat song birds.
Laws laws laws and still animals die.

The same reason they sell junk food to people. money.

I was always confused about the hunting thing. Can't they only catch the slow and sick birds? Wouldn't that make the flock stronger, like predation makes antelope herds stronger?
