Swimsuit Season

Are you ready?  I'm not.  That picture was taken July 4 of last year in Florida.  I don't think I want anyone taking my photo in a swimsuit today.  I have a half marathon in June and I'm nowhere near ready for it, either. I haven't done much exercise since I hurt my knee in February. Time to get moving.  I need to start small to avoid re-injury, so it will be a 3-mile walk this evening.  I'll test my knee to see if it can handle running next week.

You know, I walk my dog every evening and I always bragged that I probably walked at least 5 miles. So..I put on a pedometer and guess what? ONE lousy mile and some change. I felt like such a wimp....

I thought I was doing alright until I tried on a bathing suit recently...under a light in a changeroom that showed each and every flaw. Back to the ol' drawing board and/or swimming in the dark!

@Brian Miller: I will take it slowly. It's doubtful I'll be able to run 13 miles in June. I'll still go and walk.

@athens: I can't even copy and paste your name. :( Thank you. I was able to walk the full 3 miles with no pain so that's a good start.

@Maria: A mile every day is not bad. I bet that's more exercise than most people get.

@Rebecca S.: They always have the most unflattering lights in dressing rooms. You'd think someone would figure out we'd buy more if they fixed that.

I hope your walk was pleasant for you!

@SandyCarlson: It felt great to get back out there!

@jack69: Thanks. It's doing well so far. Keep your fingers crossed.

Swimsuit? Whats that? jk..I haven't boughten a swimsuit in probably 15 yrs. I just never go swimming.

I hope that knee holds up on ya and survives the Marathon.

I find that there is nothing like swimming to melt any spare condition you have hanging about.
On the Swimsuit situation, in Ireland given that it gets to about 25 on the hottest day, they are not designed to do what you are doing in the water or even get wet at all. Here they are more a frame to a canvas.

I like the photo (with the title of the post you better have a picture!). The hat gives anonymonity to the subject, forcing the viewer to see the connection between you and the dog.

LOL @ Vince on "more time to frame the canvas"

Gently does it. As the saying goes 'never run before you can walk' - or something like that anyway, you know what I mean (I hope).

Thank you for visiting and commenting on my blog. My visit to the salon did me a world of good. You are a very busy lady and you run marathons!!! WOW Please come back to visit when you have time.

I can make boxers look like a thong... :)

@Heather: I will still be swimming when I'm 80! (I just won't do it in a bikini.)

@Vince: Folks in Ireland are my color. I'd probably fit right in.

@sage: I loved that little dog. I tried to steal him.

@Petty Witter: Just don't ask me to crawl before I walk. That's very hard on the knees.

@Lucy: I got a WOW!!! Thanks. Mostly people just look at me funny and ask, "Why?"

@Tammy: I think I need one of each. Or at least a rashguard and some board shorts. Bikinis aren't very practical when you start playing in the water.

@buffalodick: LOL. That doesn't sound comfortable.

Oh - I have a 5km Cancer Research run next month and I am nowhere near fit enough even for that. I'm still tired after all the treatment but am determined to get fit and look better in a swimsuit. I like Rebecca's idea of swimming in the dark. Hope your knee manages its walk!!

welcome!

@Kate: 5K is how far I walked the other day! You can do it! Half the people (at least) will be there to walk. There is no shame in starting out that way if you need. Good luck.

@Ji: Thank you. My knee is stronger every day.

Has your knee gotten any better?
Your dog (it is your dog, right?) is so adorable!

xx Blaize.

Jen said...

@Blaize: I had no pain on my walk. I haven't tried running on it yet. That's a friend's dog. He was adorable.

Hey, I know that picture! Oh wait, I took it (grin) And I have not forgotten how good you looked in that bikini, either, and remarking to that effect with you standing there.

BTW I took my kids that same beach last week, and they loved it. They even rolled in the sand just like Tip did on July 4!

Jen said...

@Rob: They didn't mind the long walk in?

Rob Strickland said...

They did at first, but after I said they need to watch out for snakes and alligators, their interest level increased dramatically. And once we made it over that humongous sand dune at trail's end, they unleashed their vast stores of kid energy.

Pics and spiel on my blog BTW.
