Houston International Festival

Crowd watching Joe Ely at iFest (Houston's International Festival).  After I took this picture I saw some professional photographers go to the same spot and do the same.  Friggin' copycats!

In exchange for promoting Bayou City Outdoors for two hours, I got free entry into the International Festival yesterday.  BCO had a booth where we handed out coupons for one month free membership, passed out calendars, and told people how much fun we were having kayaking, backpacking, etc.  It was an easy job.  Everyone seemed to be interested in the kayaking.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife special on outdoor clubs is up on Youtube.  They didn't use any pictures of me.  :(  Most is footage from the Big Bend trip.  Hill Country Outdoors is one of our sister clubs and I have full access to their calendar, as well as clubs in Denver, San Diego, and a couple of others.  I have done a few things with the Meetup groups they mentioned, but I have had more fun and made more friends with BCO.

That is a lovely shot with the crowd combo and part of the Houston skyline. Sounds like you are having a fun time along with a little work.

As I dream to make a living as a window cleaner, this looks like a perfect place ;)
Nice to read about your happiness and to see some many people able to enjoy the good weather.
Please have a wonderful start into the new week.

How fun! To combine two things that you love...that's the way to work! I'll bet the weather there in Houston is lovely about now, right?

@Brian Miller: It's perfect camping weather in the south. Get out there.

@jack69: It felt more like hanging out than working.

@athens: I hear those guys make a pretty good living...and there are plenty of windows to clean here.

@kathryn: At this moment it is raining. This is the best time of year to be outdoors, though. Not too cold and not too hot.

My outdoor activities are pretty much limited to fishing and hunting. Are you familiar with the BOW (becoming an outdoors woman) program?? I've attended events in AR, LA and WI. Check it out: http://www.uwsp.edu/cnr/bow/

Thanks for visiting my blog!

Sounds like fun!

Sometimes I think it's impossible to take an original-looking picture because the moment you set up your shot, there's a line of people behind you trying to get the same angle. I like the way you got the buildings and the crowd though--extra credit for thinking of it first!

That sounds a very very very good idea. Most of the Adventure type are far closer to an Army Ranger training course that something that might actually be fun.

I've got to get to Big Bend someday--but boy did they take a lot of stuff in that video.

When someone copies me, I don't know whether to be flattered or pissed...

@Kelly: BCO keeps my calendar pretty full but thanks for the link. I'll add it to my favorites and watch for interesting stuff in the future...just in case.

@Emily: I liked the contrast of green space within the downtown area. You can't see much green with all the people, though.

@Vince: Can you believe people actually pay to go to those boot camp things? NOT for me!

@sage: They were feeding 50 people and probably providing tents for a few. I don't think you or I will need to pack so much.

buffalodick: I was a little bit of both.

@LadyCat: Thanks! You are welcome any time. I love seeing new faces!

@Writing Without Periods!: Start by checking out Meetup.com. They are pretty active in some areas.

@Gayle: You need an RV? Those are nice but not the same. I'm a tenter.
