Hurricane

Ike

Jennifer

MySpace Video

That's footage from Ike, which blew through here a couple of years ago.  The voices belong to me and my friend.  We went out to take video earlier and locked ourselves out of the house at the height of the storm - not the most intelligent thing I've ever done...

My daughter was more traumatized than I thought.  I'm having a difficult time convincing her all we'll get from Alex is rain.  She wants to know if the electricity will go out.  Of course I can't guarantee it won't go out at all, but it's not going to be out for days or weeks.  Some people had no lights for a month.  Hurricanes are not fun, that's for sure.

She's worried about driving to school tomorrow.  I told her if there's any water on the road not to drive through it.  She said, "What am I supposed to do?  Just stop?"

"Yes,"  I replied.

She gave me the annoyed teenager glare.

"Turn around.  Don't drown."

"How can I turn around?  There will be people behind me."

"They'll be turning around, too."

At least there isn't a river she can get swept into between here and school...I don't think...

I heard about hurricane Alex this morning. My first thought was the oil spill and hope, gosh, I really hope that the hurricane won't pick up the oil and create a disaster for you guys. Be safe and take care.

I think you gave your daughter good advice about driving tomorrow; I'm hoping it will be safe travels for all and Alex won't be too destructive.I've never been in a hurricane but hubby has

be safe!

It has hit below the bordercf the news this morning. Glad you both are safe if a bit damp.

Scary but I couldn't help but be disappointed that there were no houses landing on ruby slippered witches.

Heard about Alex yesterday. These things worry me, although they are very rare in England.
But, we do get affected by the Gulf Stream.

Stay safe and take care!

That's a very good advice for everyone.
I saw someone drown once, when the river was flooded. It was sad.
Have a great day.

LOVE!

Yeah hurricanes are definitely dangerous. But the advice is good, as you know. I have never heard it put that way. "Don't drown, turn around" I like it.

Wow, that was a powerful footage. I have never been near a hurricain but close to tornado's but never in one. Thank goodness.

Glad this one hit farther south. For your sake and for the sake of the cleanup efforts in the Gulf.

We usually get a fair amount of rain when they hit the TX coast, but I'm not sure we'll get much out of this. Ike and Katrina both swamped us (but I'm not complaining since our damage was minimal compared to the coast!!)

Doesn't that girl watch the news! People drown all the time from not heeding that motto.

Thankfully all we got was rain and wind.

I understand your daughter's reaction. After 20 years in Florida and 4 hurricanes, I get a lump in my stomach every June 1st. And I live in Central Texas, a long way from salt water. Some things make deep furrows in the brain...
