Should I Stay or Should I Go?

That's me, stuck on a downed tree during my last kayak camping trip.
Stay in town for the weekend, or go on the annual Sabine River kayak trip, that is.  It's a three-day kayak camping trip that takes place along the Texas / Louisianna border each Labor Day weekend.

The new tropical disturbance in the Gulf is frightening me.  I want to go, but I'm not sure my paddling skills are adequate to cope with 50 mph winds and flooding rivers if that storm develops.

Not only would it be a much-needed weekend escape, it would make a great post for my new travel blog.  I may have to sit this one out, though.  Maybe I remember enough details to post about my Village Creek trip...

I would play it safe as well. There will always be another opportunity--one that involve sunny and calm conditions.

And where's the fun in that. Now you've cooked that young one of yourn, there's no need for you to watch the stove all the time. Just make certain you've adequate insurance.
Try active holiday insurance, I'll bet you there is a package that allows for multiple trips which should suit you down to the ground. It'll be far cheaper that way. Only high altitude climbing and scuba diving that have a premium or they wont insure at all. Most everything else is active family these days.

I say go for it. Of course, I say that from my warm, dry house.

Whatever you do, have a great, long weekend. :)

It sounds like a fabulous trip but I'd definitely check out where the storm is going before making the final decision. BE SAFE!

How late before you have to decide? Just keep a watch on the storm... it might not come that far west.

We had to decide tonight. The problem is that once we put our boats in the water, we're committed to paddling three days to reach our cars at the takeout. The trip is cancelled. I'm still getting out of town, but not kayaking.

Sounds like a great adventure...if you dont get swept away in a torrent. Surely you guys will abandon the river if it starts to rise?

Nice to visit again Jen, its been a while.

To answer the question you left on my blog ..... yes the film Chocolat is indeed based on the Joanne Harris book I mentioned.

I thought of you when I read Connie's blog. She's American born, used to live in Saipan, and now lives in Japan. I think I've seen you comment on her blog.

Anyway, she's about to turn 50 and is taking up a new life adventure - hiking! Went out and bought some attire and gear and put pictures of it on her blog. I was so envious. Seeing all your adventures and now hearing how she's getting out there is keeping the thought on my mind.

Hope all is well. :)
