2 Down, 8 to Go

Photo from Flickr.
Painted Red Toenails, originally uploaded by ellisfoto.
Not mine.  Mine are not very pretty at the moment.
It's sandal season again and I'm missing 2 toenails. They finally fell off a few days ago. Actually, it's an improvement. There are already some tiny new ones growing back in. They don't look nearly as disgusting as the yellowish blobs that fell off or the two grey/black/purple ones that are still hanging in there.

I don't usually paint my toenails but I may have to start this year. Think if I paint where my toenails used to be, anyone will notice?

Oh, you poor thing. I say, go get a pedicure and find out.

hmm I'm still not sure how that's possible ... :/ do you think they can grow back?

My partner often has purple/black toe nails due to playing sport. I quite like them! :D

You have to feel sorry for the chick on the right, the poor girl has not moved in those toes quicker that a walk since she was 12.

Men at least do not notice things unless you bring attention, like painting something. We get a bit OCD about clocks with the wrong time or pictures off-kilter. But we have little fundamental interests in toes beyond those that function. But I would suggest, and without any humility what-so-ever. It is better to be seen as the ballsy wench that hiked through that level of pain, rather that the sad **** -insert own four- that painted skin.

Don't sweat it. You're tough, you're a hiker, you kick A**!

@Pseudonymous High School Teacher: I think I'm going to be giving myself my own pedicure whether I paint or not. I hate to subject someone else to my nasty feet. That, and I'm afraid of what I'll catch from their often less than sterile facilities.

@Poppy: Most of my marathon running friends have lost at least one toenail at some point and they have always grown back.

@LL Cool Joe: You like them? Really?

@Vinceand sage: I think I like that attitude better. I earned these toes!

Maybe they have fake toenails, like fingernails...

I know what you mean, I don't really like sandals... not the totally open ones. Whatever you do - good luck!

OUCH! Did you break your toes. I did once and my toenails were the most painful to heal until they fell off.

Here in AZ sandals are a neccessity. Seriously you don't want to wear socks in 100+ weather.

@buffalodick: You may have thought you were kidding, but they do! I saw them at the grocery store. Seems like more trouble than they are worth, though.

@Minka: It is usually all I wear during the summer...except when I'm exercising. It gets very hot here.

@Christiejolu: No, I blistered my toenails. It's a common injury for long distance runners and hikers. We get those 100+ days, too. It's even worse with humidity.

I would leave them be till the nails grow back compeletly. Besides you totally earned those battle scars, wear them proudly!

Love the sandals and the toe nail polish! I have no nail on one of my little toes! :) But I always have pedicures and the gal just paints a nail on - works like a champ! I don't get manicures much because the polish just chips off - between work and golf - it just doesn't work! But I ALWAYS have pedicures - one of the FUN gifts I give to myself on a regular basis! (Think everyone should!!) Happy Spring!

@Rob: Thank for returning the visit!

@Poisonn Amour: They do seem to be growing back fast. It's not as gross as I expected.

@Heather: I am leaving them as they are. I did earn them!

@SandyCarlson: I don't think most people are noticing them even without polish.

@gayle: I certainly don't want people speaking about me in Vietnamese...if I go at all, they must speak English!

@Ollie McKay's: I bought the stuff to give myself a pedicure. Going to do it this weekend. I think I'm going to skip the polish, though.

I just had a major break across the middle of my big toe nail, the day before I was booked in for a pedicure. I went along anyway, thinking she might not be able to do that one, and instead she's basically stuck it back together with nail polish. I'm sure you'd also be fine painting your toes where there's no nail ;)

@Rachel Cotteril: Ouch! That sounds more painful than losing one.
