Garnishment of Wages

In the great state of Texas, credit card companies are not allowed to garnish wages so they're not likely to do anything except lower your credit score. I just checked Hawaii, however, and they can take 20% of my disposable income. Ack!

Is it just the credit card companies that can do it, I wonder, or can the companies that bought my debt do it as well?

That's not going to stop me from going. It is all the more reason to try to sell as much Avon as possible.

I should recommend my ex move to Texas (note: folks, he already lives out of state further away than Texas so please don't think I'm trying to chase him away from his children); then he couldn't use the garnishments his creditors have against him as his reason to not pay child support.

Hmmm... hey, it could work! Plus the boys run less than those garnishments do, LOL.

Credit card companies are not allowed to garnish, but child support is automatically withheld as soon as it's ordered, whether you're behind or not.

But they won't give you a good credit score unless you use them...

Credit cards both suck and are useful.

Jen I keep one credit card in case I need to rent a vehicle or book a fight etc. I never keep a balance, always pay it off when due.
They are a good thing to have but so many abuse them today and probably because they feel they have no choice......:-) Hugs

My partner and I don't always agree on money matters, but we both are ADAMANT about paying off our credit cards every single month. I went to med school and was nearly 30 thousand dollars in debt when I was finished. It took me nearly ten years to pay it off but I learned a valuable lesson: NEVER be in debt if you can possibly avoid it.
