My tires were still worrying me, so I took my car to the Discount Tire and got them checked. The Wal-Mart lady was WRONG! My tires were NOT ok. There were metal threads hanging out of one of them. I bought four new tires in Provo and then drove to Moab.
I set up camp at the Slickrock Campground for 23 dollars a night. It wasn't the prettiest spot, but the national parks' campgrounds were full and I only intended to use it as a place to sleep and shower. A problem with car camping can be the noisy neighbors. At 2:30 the first night, they were up partying, drinking, and keeping everyone awake. One of them was playing the guitar and singing off key. Then they turned on their radio! Someone called the police. The cops told the guys if they had to come back, someone was going to jail. The noise died and I finally got a little sleep. The next night, they turned on the radio again. A woman went over and asked them to turn it down. A few minutes later they were arguing loudly in French, but they turned off the radio. The last night, they were gone.
Next time I will camp in a national forest and pay $3 -$5 for a shower at the commercial facilities instead. There are plenty of them in the area.

Don't you just hate people that turn their music so loud it is ridiculous. My alcoholic neighbors did that for 2 weeks straight and the cops were out every night, They finally said if we have to come out again it will be 100.00 every night, we come out. It stopped then. Of course camping is a different story.
People can be so rude. There are good state campgrounds in Green River and also at Dead Horse Point (but you have to haul in water) There are a lot of National Forest and BLM campgrounds, but most of them don't have showers
Rude people suck..
Given you are driving, are the prices of the motels so much more pricy than $25 per night. Or are the normal motels wall so thin that you may as well be out in the open ?.
Someplace like Moab, I'd expect to pay 80 to 100 dollars for a decent hotel.
This is happening more and more in camping areas. Campgrounds were once the place for 'getting away from the noise'. Most folk hate to report ir, but when it is reported, it usually quietens down, but it should not be there to start with.
Bad and good about the tires.
what an interesting shelter they put you in as well...love camping in the national forest...
When camping I love the quiet!! Sorry yours was noisey!!
Totally not cheating to link up a post from any old time. I've had bloggers link up old post from much more back than a few days. It's all fun, it's all about community.
glad you kept up on your tires and had someone else take a look at them so that you could be safe driving for the rest of your trip. I don't know why people are inconsiderate when it comes to making noise when they are in "tight quarters" like they were at the campground. Glad they eventually left but still what a pain.....
Happy Fourth!
betty
Have a happy 4th of July.
You have these same problems no matter where you go, they want all the campers in one place so they can keep an eye on them and provide toilets etc..but there's always one...
Some people are so inconsiderate. You must also have an invisible sign over your 'roof' which asks others to make as much noise as possible.
Sorry you paid good money only to be annoyed..
Thanks for the info on geocaching, I went to the site and read all about it! That is so cool, I love it, and it turns out there are some geocaches in my area! XO!
Glad you decided to get a second opinion on the tires.
I seriously hate noise, when the place is supposed to be peaceful. sorry that happened to you.
LOVE!
i can't believe it was that expensive! national forest is the way to go!!!
Just one more reason why I don't like camping...
WOW! Is that expensive? It just seems it to me.
John
It still amazes me that people can be so inconsiderate to the folks around them.
Rude people .. and they ended up speaking French. Surprise, surprise!! OK .. that was kind of rude of me. I don't really know any French people so I shouldn't really say that at all ... I just know it is a stereotype and I had to go for the cheap joke. Now I feel guilty. I will eat some crepes to make up for it.
I've been wanting a camping experience for a year or so. What you just described is scary, but I'm glad I read it. I would NOT have been happy either! It's good to hear about all sorts of things to be aware of.
stay safe,
camping is challenge to me.
Glad to see you survive and prevail day by day!
cheers!
Eeekk! Glad you had those tires rechecked and changed! Sometimes people are just selfish doing things to serve themselves without regard for others. Can't believe those folks partied like that at the campsite.
