The day after the marathon was rainy in Provo and rainy in Moab, where I planned to hang out until it was time to meet up with my backpacking buddies, so I decided to extend my stay and spend the day relaxing and just recovering from the race. My room had a fridge and microwave, so I went to Big K-Mart and stocked up on food and drinks. I couldn't just sit all day, so between showers I did a little geocaching.
This one, hidden inside a camo'd bunker, is a Travel Bug Hotel. This one was in a front yard and resembled the boxes containing water meters. The tiny geocaching stickers gave it away. Sometimes there are a lot of TB's in these things, sometimes there are none. They are usually located near a well-traveled highway and are large enough for good-sized trade items.
I dropped off Mr. Grumpy and picked up The Cache Fairy. She has no specific goal, so I brought her home to Texas. As soon as the weather improves, I'll find a good spot to drop her off.
This is a copy of the original because the first one disappeared. If you find Travel Bugs, please do not keep them. These are not trade items. They are to be moved from cache to cache, often with a specific goal. They can be tracked at http://www.geocaching.com/

You are one busy lady. Good to know for us non geocacher's. It all sounds like a lot of fun and tying it in with hiking, I am sure adds to the excitement.
TAke care
You are a great teacher. I am sure you could tell me a lot I have never ever known.
So the travel bug is always attached to something which you can take and place in a cache somewhere else? Do you have to find another Travel Bug Hotel in which to leave it?
Moab is such a neat town--have you read Edward Abbey?
how cool...nice intel on the travel bugs, neat that they keep moving...
All the TB's I've seen are the tags attached to something of the owner's choosing. No, you do not have to find a TB Hotel. You can leave them in any cache large enough to hold them.
Who is Edward Abbey?
Such fun! I wish I could spot some of these... will have to check out the website! Have a wonderful 4th! ~Janine XO
nice to see you having fun!
Happy July 4th!
I bet that was nice to geocache in another city! gave you lots of great opportunities to test your skills out to find them :)
betth
Okay, i am going to check this out because I can't figure out what it is! And my husband didn't know, he usually knows everything (he's a fellow geek!). So happy you stopped by Little Blue Deer, happy to meet you and happy to be your newest follower! XO!
Wait ... so you ran a marathon and then went geocaching for fun? I would have been recuperating in a hospital!!! I admire you!! And I've been interested in this whole geocaching thing ... I think my Little One would love it!
Jen, how do you get to setting up some of these caches. The other day when I was at Kells Priory I encountered a chick from Tennessee.
You are always up to something! Good tip on the caches....
I'm fascinated by this whole geocaching thing. You must have excellant eyesight to have spotted those stickers.
I haven't hidden any yet. The guidelines are listed on the website: http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#offlimit
Hi Jen, I gave my 3 girls a TB each to place. It will break their hearts if they go missing, you get kinda attached to them eh?! I lost my new GPS, my daughter borrowed it and wont give it back...she says she will pay me for it...eventually. So I'm looking at getting another, prob a Garmin GPSMAP60csx
Sounds like you got to have some fun in your spare time.
