Cormorants have become one of my favorite birds to watch.
That's not a stick or a snake, it's a cormorant swimming under water with just the head and neck above water.
Yesterday, I found these juveniles harassing mom.
Photos taken on Heron Island at Smith Oaks (High Island, TX), Shangri La (Orange, TX), and Cameron Prairie National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana.
I'm linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday. Stewart has posted Australian cormorants this week. They look a bit different than mine. No, I didn't do it on purpose.
they make me think of dinosaurs...we used to see them in florida...great shots
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the cormorants. I really enjoy watching them holding their wings out to dry.
ReplyDeleteo, you found a nest. How lucky you are. I see lots of cormorants but never seen a nest. :(
ReplyDeleteWe have the Black and Whites as shown on Stewart's site but I am not a fan. These smelly, noisy birds annoy fishermen by stealing their baits and/or fish. There are thousands of them infesting the coast here and I have done battle several times to unhook them after ingesting hooks. Ive been savaged/bitten/pecked/scratched but managed to return all the birds to the water relatively unharmed. The worst of it really is their colonies, the smell of Ammonia is overpowering, you get watering eyes immediately and headache, sore throat after a short time.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love the shot of the bird with its wings spread out.
ReplyDeletehi! thought maybe you had given up on blogging. :)
ReplyDeletei like it when cormorants stop here, too. such cool birds!
I think it would have been cool if you had done it on purpose!
ReplyDeleteInteresting, if not pretty, looking birds.

ReplyDeleteI was walking on a small bridge that goes over the a wetland stream near my house today. I heard a honking sound, but saw no creature. I thought about you; that you'd be able to tell me what I heard.
ReplyDeleteHope you're doing well and still snapping your wonderful photos.
These are some great catches, for the bird and photographer. :)
